Oriental bay owl (Phodilus badius)
The Oriental bay owl is a secretive nocturnal bird found across South and Southeast Asia, including the forests of Vietnam, where it inhabits dense woodlands and areas with thick vegetation. Unlike typical owls, it has a distinctive heart-shaped facial disc and a slender, elongated appearance, giving it an almost ghostly presence. Hunting mainly at night, it feeds on small mammals, birds, and insects, using its exceptional hearing to locate prey in darkness. Rarely seen due to its elusive habits, it remains one of the most mysterious owls of Asia’s forests.
Phodile calong (Phodilus badius)
Le phodile calong est un oiseau nocturne discret présent en Asie du Sud et du Sud-Est, notamment dans les forêts du Vietnam, où il fréquente les boisements denses et les milieux riches en végétation. Contrairement aux hiboux typiques, il possède une face caractéristique en forme de cœur et une silhouette fine et allongée qui lui donnent une apparence presque fantomatique. Chassant principalement la nuit, il se nourrit de petits mammifères, d’oiseaux et d’insectes, utilisant son ouïe exceptionnelle pour repérer ses proies dans l’obscurité. Rarement observé en raison de ses habitudes discrètes, il demeure l’un des rapaces nocturnes les plus mystérieux des forêts d’Asie.
